Refer-a-Friend FAQ
Your referral must open a qualifying UCU checking account and complete the required program qualifications within 60 days.
1. Refer a Friend Program: Offer valid as of August 3, 2026, and subject to change, modification, suspension, or cancellation at any time without prior notice. This program is specifically designed for eligible university employees, faculty, staff, and students within University Credit Union’s field of membership.
To participate, the referring individual must submit a referral through the official University Credit Union Refer a Friend program. The referred individual must be eligible for membership and open a new qualifying UCU checking account using the referral invitation provided through the program. Referral rewards are available only for new qualifying checking accounts. Existing members, joint account holders added to an existing account, and individuals with current or previously closed UCU checking accounts may not qualify. Self-referrals are prohibited. Referral bonuses are limited to referrals made through the official Refer a Friend program and cannot be combined with other referral offers unless otherwise stated.
2. Checking Account Reward Requirements: To qualify for the referral reward, the referred individual must open a new qualifying UCU checking account, establish full direct deposit of payroll or other qualifying university-related recurring income, meet the applicable monthly direct deposit requirement described below, complete at least 12 debit card purchase transactions, and enroll in eStatements.
For eligible university employees, faculty, and staff, the account must receive a minimum of two qualifying payroll direct deposits of at least $750 each, for a minimum total of $1,500 in qualifying payroll direct deposits per month.
For eligible university students, the account must receive a minimum of two qualifying direct deposits of at least $250 each, for a minimum total of $500 in qualifying direct deposits per month.
For employees, faculty, and staff, qualifying direct deposits must be recurring payroll deposits received directly from the individual's employer or payroll provider. For students, qualifying direct deposits must be recurring deposits from an eligible and verifiable source as determined by University Credit Union.
ACH transfers initiated from another financial institution, account-to-account transfers, transfers between UCU accounts, Zelle® transfers, peer-to-peer payment services, mobile payment applications, cash deposits, check deposits, deposits made at a UCU branch, and other deposits or transfers that do not meet University Credit Union’s qualifying direct deposit requirements will not satisfy the monthly direct deposit requirement. University Credit Union reserves the right to determine whether a deposit qualifies for purposes of this promotion.
3. Free Checking Bonus: Once all qualifying requirements have been verified, the referring individual and the referred individual will each receive a $50 Mastercard Virtual Reward. Rewards will be delivered electronically to the email address associated with each participant through the referral program platform. Both accounts must remain open and in good standing at the time rewards are issued. Accounts subject to closure, restriction, fraud review, or other adverse account status may be disqualified from receiving rewards.
4. Additional Limitations: There is no limit to the number of eligible referrals a participant may make. However, University Credit Union reserves the right to disqualify referrals or transactions that appear fraudulent, abusive, self-generated, manipulated, or otherwise inconsistent with the intent or requirements of the program. Referral rewards may be considered taxable income, and participants are responsible for any applicable tax reporting obligations.
Program terms, eligibility requirements, qualifying deposit requirements, transaction requirements, reward amounts, and these disclosures are subject to change at any time. University Credit Union reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to interpret these terms and to modify, suspend, extend, or terminate the promotion at any time, with or without prior notice, subject to applicable law.
